8th International conference VITAMINS - Nutrition and Diagnostics was held at Tomas Bata University in Zlin from September 9th - 11th, 2008. The main organizers were Radanal Ltd., Society for Nutrition and Tomas Bata University in Zlin.
The Conference was under the auspices of Minister of Education of the Czech Republic Ondrej Liska and Rector of Tomas Bata University Ignac Hoza.
Conference was evaluated by the Czech Pharmacy Chamber and the Czech Association of Nurses and KVVOPZ
About 200 participants from 15 countries came to Zlin. 36 lecture and 56 posters were registred. You can see the list of posters and lectures here:

The lectures were divided into blocks: „Separation and detection of bioactive substances"„Question what to drink"and „Nutrition supplements". The spoken language of the conference was English. A block devoted to nutrition supplements was presented in Czech.
One of the most interesting topics was the change of life style at the beginning of 21st century. A current generation with the change of life style to a way of sitting occupation, very often using public transportation and doing less exercise. People have lost their balance between intake and outtake of energy. That is the main problem. It can be seen on the USA that is ahead of us in development and from where the fast food way of feeding came to us. The studies show that majority of people would suffer from obesity and diseases that follow it. The purpose of the conference was to contribute and extend understanding that the successful usage of various kinds of nutrition supplements is conditional to the knowledge of their take effect. Otherwise nutrition supplements won't help and their over usage can be harmful. It is still true that the cheapest diet pill is exercise, but we mustn't forget about the right nutrition. There were doctors, who deal with healthy problems of their patients linked with wrong diet and whom the conference enabled to met with specialists on technology of food production who also took part and also specialists on food analysis and evaluation.
There will be published a book of abstracts from the stated papers. The information was passed on magazines for nutrition and healthy style.
