year 2009

9th international conference Vitamins, Nutrition, Diagnostics took place at MZLU in Brno from 31. 8. - 2. 9. 2009. About 200 participants were registered from 19 countries (besides CR it was Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Egypt, Germany, Hungary, China, India, Iran, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, Malaysia, Poland, Russia and Slovakia). Special program was in English language and it was composed from 55 lectures and 54 special poster announcements. The Abstract Book was compiled and published from sent abstracts. Also presenting companies took part and they presented their news on the market.

Main organizers of this educational event are the company RADANAL s.r.o., Society for Nutrition, Mendel University of Agriculture and Forestry in Brno and Tomas Bata University in Zlin. The Conference „VITAMINS" is an official event of Society for Nutrition, Czech Society of Clinical Biochemistry, Prague and Working group of chromatography and electrophoresis of Czech Chemical Society. It was organized under the auspices of Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, the Lord Mayor of the Brno City Municipality and the Rector of Mendel University of Agriculture and Forestry in Brno.

This year´s conference was fairly full of lectures with presentations of results which have and will have the impact not only on the specialists but are important in normal life too. Discussion about „Drinking" (what and how much to drink) was the meaningful part of the lecture program. Of course the jewel of our food-stuff industry, beer, could not be missed out. The whole section was dedicated to beer. Vines were in imaginary „hinge" and various kinds of beverages including milk and mineral waters in the end.

The attention of the participants was focused also in nutritional therapy, its effects and mainly in techniques used for the assesment of substances having a positive or negative effects on the organism. Moreover two sections were dedicated to the theme of 21st century, to nanotechnologies. The speakers refered a lot of very interesting information from the particles production to their usage as the analytical tool, their use as the medicaments carrier and so-called targeted therapy.

The special program of the conference resumable in words of the classic Ernest Thompson Seton: „We are surrounded by a wisdom, a man is not its source but a mere reservoir and can deliver only what he gathered." From satisfied expressions and commendatory talks in the lobbies we can modestly hope that our conference offered a sufficient place to „deliver" the wisdom.

This year´s conference is breaking, next year conference will be held with the name INDC (International Nutrition and Diagnostics Conference). It will take place in Prague from 4th till 7th September 2010. Expert jury honoured two posters from this year´s conference. Their authors obtained the registration fee for INDC as an award, inclusive travel and accommodation expenditures.
